Moletai Observatory belongs to Theoretical Physics and Astronomy Institute and is built about 10 km away from Moletai, near a small village of Kulionys. Height of the Observatory is 200 m above sea level. It is often visited by excursions, participants of which have a possibility to get acquainted with the news of Lithuanian and world astronomy, telescopes, pictures of most beautiful planets, stars, nebulas, clusters and galaxies. On the Southern wall of the Observatory Sun clock is set. Not far from the telescopes there are mythological bowl-like stones, which in ancient times were used to store healing water of the Thunderer. To the South from Moletai Observatory near Lenktinis lake there are the remains of and old ethnographic homestead buildings: basement, cowshed and baths. In 1996 in the territory of created museum an ancient lookout of celestial bodies was built: stone Altar of Sun and Fire surrounded by ten wooden temple pillars. The pillars mark six cardinal points and sunrise and sunset azimuths on most special calendar holidays. Here you can get the impression how celestial bodies were observed and calendar calculations made in ancient times. Use a rare possibility to watch celestial bodies through a telescope...
